Custom programme

Designed around
what you want to achieve.

A Custom programme is not a different version of the Cruising week. It starts from a conversation about your specific goals and builds the programme around those — duration, focus, pace, and what counts as a good outcome for you.

It works best when you know what you need — a specific passage coming up, a skill gap you have identified, a group with a shared objective — but also works for situations where you have time available and want to make the most of it. The intake conversation helps clarify the goal before anything is planned.

The boat, the location, and the coaching are the same. The structure is yours.

Who this works for

A specific gap to close

Offshore night sailing, passage planning, manoeuvring in confined spaces, downwind sail handling, spinnaker work. If you know what you are missing, a Custom week can focus entirely on that — without time spent on skills you already have.

A group with aligned goals

Sailing clubs, delivery crews, couples preparing for a longer voyage, corporate groups who want sailing but not a charter holiday. When the group shares a clear objective, a Custom programme can be structured specifically around achieving it.

Blue water preparation

Sailors planning an Atlantic crossing or extended offshore voyage who want to consolidate the practical skills before departure. Watchkeeping, heavy weather preparation, passage planning for multi-day legs, and energy management for an electric boat on an offshore passage.

The process

Starts with
a conversation.

1. Intake

A short conversation — by email or call — about what you want to achieve, what experience you bring, and how much time you have. This is where the programme takes shape rather than from a fixed menu.

2. Programme outline

A proposed structure: duration, focus areas, likely route, and what a good outcome looks like. Not a rigid schedule — a plan that both sides understand before you arrive.

3. Aboard

The programme runs as planned, with daily check-ins to adjust emphasis as needed. Goals are tracked, not just covered. If something needs more time, it gets more time.

4. End-of-programme debrief

A structured review of what was achieved against the original goals. What developed, what needs consolidation, and what to prioritise next if you continue sailing.

Experience & participation

Our journeys are designed for a wide spectrum of sailors—from those stepping onto a performance boat for the first time to experienced coastal navigators looking to refine their mastery. Our guidance is tailored to the group’s collective background. If you are a complete beginner, let’s discuss it during your initial booking call; we’ll ensure this format is the right starting point for your journey.

Group & solo bookings

Volt Sail trips are available as private charters for groups of two to six, offering a completely bespoke experience. We also offer individual berths on selected dates for solo sailors looking to join a like-minded crew.

Pricing

Cruising trip pricing depends on duration, season, and whether you are booking a whole boat or individual berths. See our Pricing page for the framework, or contact us for current availability and rates.

Routing is always subject to conditions. While we follow the best possible conditions, we do not guarantee specific anchorages or daily distances. What we do guarantee is an authentic sailing experience and expert guidance throughout—working with whatever the elements provide.

Common questions

What if we don’t know exactly what we want?
That is fine — and more common than the alternative. The intake conversation is partly for this: talking through what you have done, what you found difficult, and what is coming up helps identify the right focus. We will suggest a structure and you can push back on any of it before anything is confirmed.
Can you work with mixed experience levels?
Yes, with one condition: the group needs to have a shared goal even if individual starting points differ. A group where one person is new to sailing and another is an offshore skipper can work well if they are both working towards the same objective. It does not work if they need fundamentally different programmes running in parallel.
How far in advance do we need to book?
As early as possible — especially for specific date windows or peak season in the Mediterranean. Custom programmes require more lead time than Cruising weeks because of the intake and planning phase. A minimum of four to six weeks is realistic; more is better if you have a fixed departure date in mind.
What if our goals change once we are on the water?
They often do, in the good sense — you discover what you actually need to work on, which is not always what you thought at the start. The programme adapts. Daily check-ins exist specifically to adjust the emphasis as the week develops. The original plan is a starting point, not a contract.
