Volt Sail is not a charter fleet. It is built around one boat, one clear idea, and coaches who know the difference between being at the helm and helping someone else get there.
Most sailing experiences fall into one of two categories: charter holidays where someone else does the sailing, or formal courses where you work through a fixed syllabus towards a certificate.
Volt Sail sits between those two things — deliberately. The sailing is real and the participation is genuine, but the goal is not a qualification. It is about experiencing, understanding, and the kind of confidence that only comes from doing something properly under real conditions. Also, it is a lot of fun!
The boat is fully electric. Not as a statement, but because it changes the experience in ways that matter: no engine noise at anchor, no diesel smell in the cockpit, and energy management as a daily seamanship skill rather than something you ignore.
The platform is a Windelo 50 — a performance catamaran built to sail, not to sit at a mooring. It is fast enough to make sail trim matter, capable enough to take offshore seriously, and quiet enough that you notice the sea rather than the machinery.

Volt Sail charters are coached by experienced offshore sailors. The approach built into every trip is the same: no fixed itinerary, but the opportunity to experience sailing on a performance cruiser in the most beautiful sailing areas. The conditions set the agenda.
I founded Volt Sail because I wanted to bridge the gap between sustainable innovation and true performance sailing. Unlike traditional charters where the skipper is often isolated at a flybridge, our electric catamarans feature a forward cockpit that keeps everyone involved in the journey, surrounded by the silence of electric propulsion.
The platform
Nyota is a Windelo 50 Adventure — a fully electric performance catamaran based in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. She is the only boat we sail. Every programme, every coaching session, every transit happens aboard her.
Understanding the boat is part of every programme. Her energy systems, her sail plan, her handling characteristics — these are not background details. They are what you are there to experience.
The coach does not skipper the boat while you watch. You are at the helm, on the winches, standing watch. The coach is alongside — correcting, explaining, and deciding when to intervene and when to let you work through it.
There is no fixed daily curriculum. A tight marina approach in a crosswind teaches more than a briefing about marina approaches. The coach reads the conditions and decides where the coaching value is. You follow that lead.
If something is not working, you will hear it directly. The goal is that you leave with an accurate picture of where you are as a sailor — what you can do, what needs more time, and what the next steps are. That is more useful than encouragement that does not reflect reality.
Volt Sail operates to the safety standards required for the waters we sail in. Offshore passages follow a proper watch system, safety briefings happen before departure, and the boat is equipped and maintained for the passages it undertakes.
The coaching approach is direct but never reckless. Conditions are respected. Programmes are adapted if the weather requires it. The coach’s call on safety is final — that is not negotiable, and it is part of what you are paying for.
Nyota is equipped for blue water cruising, with all required safety equipment including EPIRB and liferaft. All coaches hold RYA Yachtmaster Offshore or equivalent — including first aid certification and sea survival.
Volt Sail is not a charter operation in the conventional sense. There is no fleet, no hostess, no chef, and no one managing the itinerary so you can relax. If that is what you are looking for, there are excellent companies that offer it — and we would rather you find one that fits than book something that does not.
What we offer is sailing time on a serious boat, with a coach whose job is to make you more capable. That is the whole proposition. Everything else — the silence, the electric living, the destinations — serves that.
